Brochures

Brochures are for public consumption and should therefore widely communicate Umicore’s mission “materials for a better life".

You may find detailed Measurements & Specifications on our brand asset bank.

Front cover

Following Umicore’s layout principles, the front cover of all brochures should always use the Umicore logo, featuring the handwritten strapline ‘materials for a better life.’, the Radiance graphic device and Gradient-spine graphic device. The position and size of the logo can be found in the measurement details.

Imagery that relates to the content and Umicore should be selected. Where suitable, a caption about the cover image can also be included.

Headings and subheadings should be clear and legible and right-aligned as shown on the examples.

Depending on background image and/or color use an adequate Umicore primary or secondary color for headings and subheadings.

The blue-to-green gradient can be also used as typeface color or with the rectangular background with white typeface.

Back cover

The back covers of all brochures should work in harmony with their front covers. All formats follow the same grid measurements and typographic specifications.

The Gradient-spine graphic device should be used, in concert with the front cover, along the right spine.

The only information that should appear on the back cover is the appropriate Umicore address, right-aligned. The web site, left-aligned in line with the simple logo which is right aligned.

A corporate execution of the “More. Better.” construct can be used, right-aligned in gradient or Umicore blue.

Brochure spreads

Photography, typography, icons, and the secondary color palette can all be combined to create a distinctive style for corporate, business  and product spreads. The way the elements are used can be adjusted to suit different types of brochures.

All text within any brochure is always left/right justified, whether it is one, two, or three columns.

Spreads - layout grids

Most, if not all, brochures will use a layout of body text in either two or three columns. For each situation, a flexible layout grid has been developed for your use. Using the grids with discipline will ensure that all brochure spreads have a common, consistent style across Umicore.

The measurement system is based on dividing the width and the height of the page - regardless of shape, whether portrait, landscape, or square - into 10 equal parts, where one width part = X and one height part = Y. Thus, the width of the entire page = 10X and the height of the entire page = 10Y.

Application of graphical devices and content organization of the page is based on this system.

Portrait - vertical
Landscape - horizontal
Square

Spreads - typography

Brochure typography should work in harmony with the other basic elements, and should be simple and clear. Type sizes and use of colours have been developed for headings, subheadings, feature text, body copy and for captions.
