Preparing for the shoot

Safety 

All safety requirements and rules must be respected as for any Umicore working situation. The local safety officer should check that safety rules are respected, such as:

  • Emergency exits, site maps, security entrances or checks, badges shouldn’t be shown 

  • Forklift forks in down position

  • Machine guards closed

  • Ventilation switched on

  • No dangerous traffic

  • No apparent leaks

  • No hoses, loose cables or wires etc. on floor

  • All relevant safety equipment (gloves, glasses, boots, helmets…) worn in shots. Places Identify the places for the shoots 

  • The working environment should be clean, presentable and welcoming (clean-up work to be done before the shoot)

  • Remove any waste or litter on or around the workstation

  • Clean floor and walls

  • No irrelevant decoration in shot

  • Cupboard, desk drawers etc. all closed

  • Ensure the environment looks natural, not overly sanitized or neutral. Products Identify products or equipment that will be shown 

  • Relevant to the shot

  • Umicore products (for example, in the case of AC we will not use images of substrates but prefer images of our product on the catalyst)

  • No random “props” (avoid having a subject holding an irrelevant tool, logo or product)

Shooting in a production or laboratory

If shooting is in a production or laboratory setting, you MUST ensure that clearance is obtained for potentially sensitive commercial or intellectual property information in the photographs during the shoot.

People 

Personal appearance The people selected for shooting must be well groomed and display warmth.

  • Presentable face and hair, clean clothes and other equipment

  • Correct safety gear

  • Whenever possible, identifiably Umicore logo on clothing or in work area

  • Appearance should be happy/cheerful or at least not miserable! 

  • Make sure they are not wearing badges and/or tags with their name visible 

  • Make sure the people on the video have signed the authorization form

Color 

  • Umicore blue/green color dominance is NOT sought
  • Good mixes of color are preferred

Type of shot 

  • Shots should look natural and spontaneous 
  • No long poses or staging
  • Dynamic situations rather than static
  • Short pose with a product or tool during use is fine
  • People will generally be looking at their work but the odd shot into camera (eye contact) is fine if it looks spontaneous
  • Close-up shots only showing background/environment when relevant 
  • Shots should be well lit but avoid lengthy lighting installations. ATMOSPHERE “WORKING AT UMICORE”
  • People shown at their workplace with their working tools
  • No unusual or irrelevant equipment
  • People at their own workstation doing their own job
  • Warm, friendly atmosphere


After the shoot: uploading and approval

Uploading the video to the Asset Bank is the responsibility of the team in charge of the shoot. Remember to include all relevant key word “tags” so the photographs can be easily identified in searches. Before uploading, check pictures with the Safety Officer and, if relevant, with local and Intellectual Property management. Uploaded video will also be subject to approval by Group Communications management and, in some cases, general management.
