Video resolution
The current standard resolution for broadcasting video is HD. It indicates the number of pixels an image contains and thus the clarity of the picture. All footage should be shot at a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 (Full HD). If available, you can choose to film in 4K, this makes it possible to reframe the images in post- production. This is important because if there were to be sensitive information in the frame, for example, it could be framed out in post-production without any loss of quality.
Frame rate
Frame rate is the frequency (rate) at which consecutive images, called frames, appear on a display. Video at normal speed is shot at 25 frames per second. If you wish to have slow motion images you should film at minimum 50 frames per second and preferably 100fps.
Audio
When filming, always make sure you record clean audio. This means no background music or other noise during filming. It is advisable to use music without lyrics as a soundtrack. If you add music with lyrics and edit a quote at the same time, it will be difficult to understand what is being said. A library with royalty-free music is provided, so all videos have a similar atmosphere and vibe. The video ends with the Umicore outro, you can choose whether to continue the song or include the sonic brand.

Text on screen
SVO: We see the interviewee on screen. Their name fades in next to them. The type is set in Open Sans, Bold. The job title and location is set in Open Sans, Regular in two separate lines. Use the template animation available on Asset bank.

Intro and Outro
Two Umicore-branded, three-second logo animation sequences have been created for the purpose of bookending your specific video production. Both have been produced and are located in the Brand Asset Bank, differentiated from each other by a colour shade (light and dark). When working on the movie/animation project, choose the logo sequence that is in harmony with the colour mood of the video. All horizontal videos should end with the outro. Using the intro is not mandatory.
For testimonials and Employer branding video an special outro can be created with an animation of our employer branding. Animation is also available on asset bank.

Subtitling
In this case the subtitles are literally burnt into the video, and are an integral part of it. The video cannot be watched without the subtitles.

Social media platforms create more and more their AI subtitling versions make sure to export an SRT file to upload it or deactivate the subtitles to avoid incorrect messages.
Good practice
Technically, there are two deliverables here: a clean video file (master without subtitles burnt in) and a SRT file, which is a file containing the subtitles and the metadata to know at what time to display which titles.
Thumbnails
Video thumbnails are a very important aspect of having your video online. They are often the first thing that is seen and you can use them to better market your video. The thumbnail image you choose is not only the first impression a user gets of your business, it is also likely to be the best chance you will have to improve your Click-Through Rate.
- Use images from the video and supplementary images (where relevant/appropriate) to create a custom-made thumbnail that shows off the best aspects of the video.
- Use photo editing software to resize, modify or combine images together in the frame.
- Preview your thumbnail design at the actual size it will appear on the site to know if the image will still be eye-catching at smaller scales.
Lighting + grading
It is best to avoid relying on natural lighting coming in through the windows when filming inside as natural weather and the movement of the sun can drastically affect your shoot. It is therefore advised to take minimal lighting facilities with you. One key light for the interview and a soft box should be adequate. Grading is the manipulation of the colour and luminosity of the images. It is important to make sure the colors are in line with the look and feel of the Umicore brand.
