Some general guidelines
- Take the general Umicore 'Visual Identity' guidelines into account.
- Only use visuals when they support or amplify the message and content on the page. Not just to make the page look better.
- Always strive for qualitative visuals that match with the look & feel of the website.
- Don't add unnecesary (branding) elements to visuals like gradients, illustrations, icons, etc. This will only distract the user or create an inconsistent look & feel.
- Never put text on images or video that is intended for use on the website as this will never work optimally on all screen sizes.
About file size & dimensions
The dimensions and file size of the visuals intented for the website are not super required. All images that get uploaded to the website are automically compressed to reduce the file size. Depending on the component the visual is used in, the system will create a cropped version that suits the component best.
Image focal point
When uploading an image to the website you can define the focal point of the image. The system will use this focal point as the center of every crop it makes. When the focal point is not defined the system will use the center of the image by default.
While the system will make sure every visual is displayed in the best possible way it is still limited by the original file. As a general guideline we advise to make sure all visuals are close to 1440p dimensions (2560 x 1440px) and below 3MB. For videos, it should be maximum 10MB. This guarantees a qualitative result and doesn't impact the performance of the system too much.
